5 Habits to Improve Urological Health

Urological health can impact your overall quality of life and should be prioritized on a daily basis. Urological health includes functions of the male and female urinary tract involving one’s kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra, testes, scrotum and prostate. Each of these deals with different vital functions of one’s body and anyone of any age is at risk of developing a urological concern.

Regular check-ups with your doctor (especially if you are experiencing out-of-the-ordinary symptoms) and establishing daily habits to stay on top of your urological health can lower your risk of urological related diseases. Read below to see 5 habits to improve your urological health.

 1. EAT WHOLE FOODS

Aim for a rainbow diet of fruits and vegetables on your plate. Examples include blueberries, carrots, yellow peppers, asparagus, strawberries, eggplant, collard greens, and cauliflower.

 2. DRINK ENOUGH WATER

This will help keep an overall balance and is a good way to lower your chance of forming kidney stones. Try for about 3 quarts of water a day or about ten 10-ounce glasses. Frozen grapes, orange peels and cucumbers can add flavor to your water without adding many calories and will contribute to your fruit intake.

 3. LIMIT SUGAR INTAKE

It increases your risk of cancer, causes obesity, raises your risk of other health problems such as a heart attack, stroke, and hundreds of other short-term and long-term conditions. Added sugars are also hard on your gut health and can contribute to your chances of developing an urology issue.

 4. PLAN WEEKLY WORKOUT

Experts recommend aiming for at least 30 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise 3-5 times per week paired with a few days of strength training. Staying active will also improve your overall health, reducing the risks of developing a urological issue.

 5. PRACTICE HEALTHY HYGIENE

Having proper hygiene and regular bathing cycles will also lower the risks of urological problems such as Urinary tract infections (UTI’s).

Staying on top of your urological health does not require major lifestyle changes. Implementing small, daily habits will make a huge impact not only on the urological side, but on your overall health.

Talk to your doctor about any urological concerns. Do not ignore pain and report any ‘off’’ symptoms you may be experiencing. Discussing urological health with your doctor on a regular basis is a great way to reduce the risk of urological problems before they become extreme.
